HYDROGONE® horizontal disc dryer is a continuous disc dryer for the thermal drying of a wide range of materials.
The equipment consists of a heated rotor that is turning in a stator. The rotor consists of a series of heated discs that are placed on a central shaft. The stator is a cylindrical vessel that can be equipped with a heated jacket. The discs (and stator) are heated with either steam, hot water or thermal oil.

The wet material is continuously fed into the machine by a screw conveyor or positive displacement pump. The combined action of the turning discs, the swords between the disks and the agitator blades on the perimeter of the discs ensures optimal heat transfer and slowly move the product through the equipment. The dry product is continuously discharged through a frequency controlled discharge screw placed at the bottom at the opposite end of the dryer. Dry product can be partially recycled to the inlet in order to prevent the formation of a glue phase (a range of D.S. content in the drying process in which the product shows extremely sticky or gluelike behaviour) in the dryer.
Applications
The HYDROGONE® horizontal disc dryer can be used for the partial or complete drying of
municipal sludge (primary, secondary, digested,...)
industrial sludge
paper mill sludge
manure, chicken litter,...
organic waste
Advantages
Safe drying process: the HYDROGONE® is an indirect dryer. Indirect, convective drying is the safest way to dry biosolids. The fire and explosion risk is eliminated by the absence of large volumes of combustible gases – as is the case in direct contact dryers – resulting in a low oxygen vapour atmosphere (<2% O2 or 2.5 times below the lower explosion limit).
Compact size, limited building height
Wide range of capacities (from 100 to 6,500 kg/h water evaporation)
Low maintenance costs
Robust and proven design
Minimal energy consumption
